Get to Know Our Head of Markets: Edward Zhao

Hi Edward, can you tell us more about your position as ‘Head of Markets’ and what it entails?

As Head of Markets, my role is to solve for our clients’ financial and trading needs. “How do I access the crypto markets”? “How should I manage my risk”? “What is the most capital efficient way to get exposure”? Helping our clients find solutions to these problems is at the heart of what we do in the Markets business.

What first got you interested in the digital assets ecosystem?

I first started in the digital assets ecosystem mining BTC on my gaming PC in 2011. I found out about it on some internet forums, read the whitepaper, and became very intrigued. Back then, no one had ever heard about this magic internet money, and all trades were done P2P or on questionable exchange websites. I never imagined that we would get to where we are today!

How did you first hear about Hex Trust, and what made you want to join the team?

I first met Alessio through my friends in the crypto space. Alessio’s quite the man about town, and we somehow kept bumping into each other at various events. It wasn’t long before he started selling me the dream of creating a leader in crypto financial services, and the rest is history.

Tell us something interesting that you do outside of work and which not many people know about you!

I love scuba diving! From Hong Kong, the world’s best scuba diving sites are only a short flight away. It’s an extremely meditative experience, effortlessly floating in an alien world, focusing simply on your breath and the beautiful wildlife around you. And the best part is, nobody can talk!
