Hex Trust joins the Celo Alliance as the Asia-based custodian and to support its native token, Celo Gold

May 6, 2020

Hex Trust, Asia’s leading digital asset custodian, has announced that it has joined the Celo Alliance, providing custody support in Asia for Celo blockchain’s native token, Celo Gold (cGLD).

Hex Trust has joined the Celo Alliance and joins ‘The Alliance for Prosperity’ — which aims to build a worldwide collaboration to reimagine the future of money and financial access. The Alliance is an ecosystem that provides on-ramps for digital currencies for organizations that can benefit from financial access and inclusion. The goal is to make digital currencies as accessible as possible around the world — empowering anyone with a phone number who might otherwise lack access to financial services.

In support of the mobile-first open blockchain platform Celo, the Alliance provides infrastructure and education to enable more people to use digital currencies — specifically, the Celo Dollar stable asset — in the geographies that need it most. It is an inclusive and decentralized community of mission-aligned organizations across a variety of industries, including the leading blockchain projects like Coinbase and VCs like Polychain and a16z. Hex Trust joins as the Asia-based custodian alongside US-based Anchorage.

Hex Trust is integrating the Celo blockchain into the Hex Safe custody platform which is used by banks, financial institutions, exchanges, and investment funds across Asia and Europe. The integration allows Hex Trust’s clients to safely and securely hold the Celo cGLD token and access trading opportunities in the fully licensed and insured custody platform.

Alessio Quaglini, CEO of Hex Trust commented:

“About half of the adult populations in low and middle-income countries in Asia-Pacific still do not have a bank account. As it is our mission at Hex Trust to provide ecosystem participants with secure and seamless access to blockchain-based digital assets, we are proud to join the Celo Alliance and contribute to enabling more people to use digital currencies in the geographies that need them most.”
